Our Philosophy
At KITO Marine Farm, we are committed to producing a tasty and nutritious aquatic source of protein—our premium quality fresh sea bass and sea bream—always in harmony with nature.
OUR MISSION IS TO DEVELOP A SUSTAINABLE AND LOW-IMPACT FOOD-PRODUCTION SYSTEM THAT FOCUSES ON HUMAN HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND SOCIAL EQUITY INSPIRED BY OUR TEAM'S TRUE PASSION FOR THE SEA AND ITS DIVERSITY.
KΙΤΟ Marine Farm is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the framework of the European Green Deal. We are committed to developing a new form of precision fish farming based on transparency, sustainability and innovation that aims for a greater perspective on the proper treatment of farmed species. In keeping with the above we are committed to:
Our overall plan is based on a new framework for creating a comprehensive and sustainable food system that acknowledges the connections between healthy people, a healthy society and a healthy planet. KΙΤΟ Marine Farm is leveraging these principles to develop a new form of precision aquaculture that serves the ecosystem, benefits the local community and aims for a more ethical treatment of farmed species. To achieve this vision, we have developed a corporate strategic plan, under whose guidance significant investments have been made in recent years.
These investments include automated feeding systems, monitoring of environmental parameters with high-precision sensors, robotic net-cleaning systems within cages, and the construction of an innovative floating device for harvesting the fish using electro-anesthesia.
Additionally, KΙΤΟ Marine Farm is committed to reducing its energy footprint by 40% by 2030 through the use of solar panels installed on the buildings of its support facilities. Operating on an island in the Dodecanese archipelago with limited supply of fresh water, especially during the summer months, the company has installed a desalination unit that ensures year-round water self-sufficiency and is exploring a plan to contribute excess fresh water to the local network.
Moreover, KΙΤΟ Marine Farm has begun the gradual replacement of all lifting equipment with electrically powered machinery, including support vessels and platforms used in the production process.
Finally, steering the production process towards true precision aquaculture through the use of smart technologies, the company finds itself at the forefront in a number of areas in modern fish farming and is organizing research projects in collaboration with universities and research centers.
The Greek goddess Artemis is one of the oldest, most complex and interesting characters in the Greek pantheon of gods. The daughter of Zeus & Leto and the twin sister of Apollo, Artemis had numerous aspects and responsibilities. She was queen of the mountains and forests, protectress of both children and animals, but also the goddess of hunting and of the moon. And when the constant quarrelling and tumult of Mt. Olympus and the world of men became too much for her, Artemis would retreat to the tranquility of the small Aegean island of Leros.
In 1982, largely because of the island’s unique location and the special qualities of its clear, deep bays, Leros was chosen by the company ΚITO Marine Farm SA as the site for one of the very first commercial fish farms in the Mediterranean.
